Hazel’s medical journey started long before JDM. After already enduring multiple surgeries starting at 6 months old, we began noticing new and unexplained symptoms in October 2025, color changes in her hands, feet, legs, and face along with Gottrons Papules on her hands and feet and a Heliotrope rash on her face. 

After months of appointments, specialists and initially normal blood work, we eventually made our way to Duke where Hazel was formally diagnosed with Juvenile Dermatomyositis just before she turned 2.On May 4, 2026, Hazel began treatment with High dose steroids and weekly Methotrexate injections. It is unknown how long she will need treatment, but right now there is no cure. If you know Hazel, it is hard to believe she is fighting something like JDM. She runs, plays, laughs, flights with her sister, and looks like a completely normal 2 year old. We are raising money for Cure JM in honor of our Hazel girl and all of the other children and families fighting this rare disease.  Every donation helps fund research, improve treatment, and bring us one step closer to the thing we hope for most… a cure. Thank you for loving Hazel, supporting our family, and helping us fight for a future without JDM!
