Our daughter Addison was diagnosed with Juvenile Myositis (JM) at just 3 years old. Addison’s journey began with a heliotrope rash that was initially difficult to distinguish from eczema. Over time, her symptoms became more persistent, and she developed Gottron’s papules, sun sensitivity, fatigue, and muscle weakness. Navigating JM has been challenging, especially when your child is so young and can’t always explain how she is feeling.

Today, Addison is in a much better place thanks to her amazing care team at Duke, a treatment plan that works for her, and the incredible support of the Cure JM community.

We participate in Walk Strong to Cure JM because we believe in hope, research, connection, and making sure no JM family feels alone. One of our favorite parts of the walk is connecting with other local JM families and watching Addison meet other children who understand what it’s like to live with JM.

We’re walking for Addison, for every child and adult living with JM, and for a future with better treatments and, one day, a cure.

I'm walking to help kids fighting juvenile myositis (JM) - a painful, rare autoimmune disease that weakens muscles, damages skin and muscles, attacks organs, and can take away simple abilities like walking, smiling, or even swallowing.

There's no cure yet, but progress is happening.  Every step and every donation fuels research, supports families, and brings us closer to better treatments - and one day, a cure.
